Troubleshooting Kiosk Issues

At Jobman, we aim to provide a great user experience for as many devices and operating systems as possible. The application is accessible via your web browser, so there is no need to install anything and there are no specific system requirements. So, while devices with older operating systems can still access Jobman, you may encounter issues, and some functionality may be limited.

If you are experiencing issues while using Jobman, such as things not loading or displaying correctly, please read through the troubleshooting information below to see our recommendations for the best Jobman experience.

Device Hardware

Please Note: Jobman does not recommend any specific brand of device. However, you may find that cheaper devices have cheaper hardware, which may limit their ability to run Jobman effectively.

If you are using an older device (or a device that has cheaper or outdated hardware), you are more likely to experience issues while using Jobman than if you were using a modern device.

Jobman runs in your web browser, meaning the app itself can be opened on any device and isn't limited to specific devices or software versions. However, the app itself is still reliant on your device's hardware to run smoothly.

If you find opening/closing apps to be a bit slow, or using the keyboard or other apps to be sluggish, then your device may be outdated.

The average lifespan of a smartphone is around 3 years, and most manufacturers only support their devices for 4-7 years before they no longer release software updates. If your device is approaching or past this date, or is no longer receiving software updates, it may be worth considering upgrading to a newer model.

Please Note: While the Kiosk is built with mobiles and tablets in mind, you will likely find that it operates better on desktops and laptops, due to the faster hardware.

  • Key Takeaway: If your device is unsupported and/or has outdated hardware, you may need to upgrade to a newer model.

Device Software

Check that your device is using the most up-to-date version of its operating system, and check that the browser you're using is also the latest version.

Your choice of browser can also have an impact on your software experience. To take full advantage of modern web browser capabilities, we suggest using the latest version of any of the following:

  • Google Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Opera
  • Microsoft Edge

If you often experience issues with other web-based applications besides Jobman, then that is an indicator that your device or browser may need updating.

  • Key Takeaway: Check your device and browser for available updates, and install as needed.

Internet Quality

Jobman is a fully web-based software, and does not run like an offline application on any device. If you have poor internet coverage or are connected to a slower network such as 3G, Jobman will perform much slower and may fail to load entirely depending how bad the connection is.

You can test your internet connection using tools such as speedtest.net. Devices with an internet speed above 5Mbps should be able to use Jobman without any major issues; however, the faster your connection, the better your experience will be.

  • Key Takeaways:
  • Ensure you are connected to WiFi when possible (sometimes broadband/NBN internet is slower than cellular - however, it is generally more reliable).
  • If connected to WiFi:
    • If you are relatively close to the access point, consider connecting to the 5Ghz frequency for faster data transfer speed.
    • If you are further away from the access point, consider connecting to the 2.4GHz frequency for better coverage (but slower data transfer speed).
  • If on a cellular connection, ensure you have 4G or 5G enabled if it is supported in your area.
    • If your 5G connection is patchy or unstable, consider turning it off on your device
  • If you have repeated difficulties with your connection, you may need to consider switching to an internet provider with better coverage, and/or switching the SIM cards used in your mobile devices.
  • Bear in mind that if you are working in an area with no internet access, you will not be able to use Jobman.
